What is Hyphen?
Hyphen is a close-knit team that builds products to make foodservice operations more profitable and efficient. The Hyphen Makeline automates end-to-end meal assembly with ease. When an order is input or received, a receptacle automatically releases and traverses down the line where ingredients are accurately weighed and dispensed into the bowl. Once completed, the meal rises via an elevator for the operator to consolidate. This increases throughput, accuracy, and consistency and relieves operators of burdensome, repetitive work.

How does Hyphen work?
Hyphen’s Makeline automates meal production for restaurants and foodservice providers. When an order is placed through a digital channel (e.g., app, drive-thru, delivery service), it’s automatically routed to Hyphen’s Makeline where the order is assembled within seconds. Once the meal is completed, an operator routes or consolidates the meal accordingly.

Who is Hyphen for?
Hyphen is best suited for two business types, food brands and foodservice providers. We work with a wide range of food brands - from independent restaurants to international QSR chains. We serve several foodservice environments, including workplaces, university campuses, arenas, healthcare, government facilities, airports, and meal kit services. Hyphen is for anyone who wants to improve their operating margin and utilize innovative technology. 
Is Hyphen easy to use?
We require 20A @ 220 VAC, 1PH, 3 wire 60 Hz L6-20R. 
How is it cleaned?
All components snap in and out of place, with no tools required. Each piece fits comfortably in a 3-comp sink or commercial dishwasher and takes the same amount of time as cleaning a traditional Makeline. We provide operators with training and intuitive SOPs to manage this process. 
What type of power is required?

Does Hyphen require plumbing?
Hyphen doesn’t require plumbing, drains, vents, or hoods—simply plug it in and start serving on day one.
What type of meals can it make?
The Makeline can produce a wide range of cuisines, with upwards of 500 different ingredient types tested and validated. This ranges from cold to dry to hot ingredients across several categories including but not limited to bowls & salads, noodle-based meals, soups, parfaits, and smoothies. 
Can I use my packaging?
Hyphen requires specific packaging types that can mechanically separate and traverse down the line. Get in touch to learn more. 
How much does Hyphen cost?

What is the size of the system?
The system is modular, meaning it can be configured based on your culinary operation. Most locations see it as a 1:1 swap of an existing makeline. 
Does Hyphen have an app?
Hyphen doesn’t have an app in a traditional sense, meaning your customers don’t interact with the Makeline through direct Hyphen channels. We integrate with your POS provider or ERP system, whether that’s an app or some other existing format, and ingest orders directly. We do have proprietary software that operators use to engage with the Makeline via a KDS (Kitchen Display System).  
How does Hyphen receive my orders?
Hyphen directly integrates with your POS provider or ERP system, depending on your specific use case. We have a dedicated team of engineers focused on integrations, get in touch to learn more. 
How many people are needed to operate Hyphen?
Hyphen requires one operator to refill ingredients and consolidate completed meals. 
What happens if the system goes down?
In the rare event the system goes offline, operators can assemble meals manually from the top - the same as a traditional makeline. 
Does Hyphen offer training?

What happens if an ingredient is out of stock?
The Makeline configurator makes it easy to set the status of a particular ingredient, this status will be reflected on your digital ordering channels, ensuring customers can’t place orders for out-of-stock items.
